Category 5 Amplification adds Jimmy Thackery to List of Endorsing
Artist’s
Dallas Texas 11/15/07
Category 5 Amplification has added Jimmy Thackery, telarc recording artist and critically acclaimed guitar virtuoso to the list of accomplished artists endorsing Category 5 Amplification. Jimmy will be playing two Category 5 amps in stereo - an Andrew model, with 2 channels, 50 watts, 2 x 10' amp, powered by two 5881 tubes and a custom 2 channel 50 watt 1x12' named 'Typhoon Joe' powered by two el34’s.
'These amps allow me to back off on the pedals and let the amps do the heavy lifting. They are dynamic and responsive-they not only sound better, they make me play better. The 'Andrew' let’s me cover the clean tones from the blackface era and the 'Typhoon Joe' gives me the crunch reminiscent of a full stack from the late 60’s. With this combination running in stereo through my chorus, I can now do things I would never attempt with the old rig.' said Jimmy, after demoing a set of amps. 'And with Neodyne speakers, they are light enough to take anywhere with 'no roadies required'. They are also a perfect matchup with my Joe Barden pickups. Watch out – there is more fire to come from Thackery!'
'We are proud to have Jimmy playing our amps', remarked Don Ritter, Artist Relations for Category 5 Amps. 'Jimmy has so much talent, he can make a transistor radio sound good if he had to- but to hear him play though amps that allow him to use his full talent without fighting for tone is truly remarkable. Jimmy is also a supporter of the Blues in the Schools program, through various benefit appearances. This is in complete alignment with Category 5’s mission to give back.
Jimmy is touring in support of his critically acclaimed album, 'Solid Ice' Jimmy’s album is available
here and through iTunes. He will be touring extensively in the Northeast and Midwest. Jimmy’s touring schedule
on Jimmy's Home..
Category 5 Amplification specializes in creating professional quality hand wired tube amps with vintage tones and modern features. The company was formed in part to be a vehicle for giving back to the blues community and to assist in hurricane relief, (hence Category 5). Carolina Blues Festival
Former Nighthawk Jimmy Thackery, looking more like an accountant than a
bluesman, made every note count. He displayed more versatility in his songs,
more fire in his playing than he has in recent years.

This
was a dream project for me. To make a recording with Gary
Nicholson was something we both have talked about for years! Some
very significant sacrifices were made by all the folks involved;
without those sacrifices, it could not have happened. Primarily, I
would like to thank Gary and David Z. It was my honor and
privilege to have them on board. Second, thanks to all my
"Nashville Cats": Kenny, Michael, Steve, Kevin, Lynn,
Tom and Jimmy Hall, for playin' so party. To the writers, Tom
Hambridge, Kenny Greenburg, Chuck Jones, Russell Smith, Mike
Henderson, and Gary, truly the "nuts" and bolts of this
record. Thanks to Island Bound Studios and Whitey's Brick Hit
House. Jeremiah for straightening out the kinks. Barbara Ann for
letting me have her man, Gary, for this marathon. My sweet wife,
Sally, for her sacrifice and for helping me to the Healin' Ground.
"The Drivers" for letting me "Get 'er done"
and keeping me on the right road all these years. Blue Mountain
Entertainment, Rueben Williams, Blues legend Whitey
"Snowflake" Johnson , and, lastly, Ken Addington for the
inspiration. This record is dedicated to the loving memory of Inez
Starkey, and "A Shot in the Dark" is dedicated to my Pop
and "Little" Bro' Jon. "It is my beeznus to know
these things."

reviews:
The one-time guitarist for the Nighthawks mixes gut-bucket blues with
rock and throws in a trio of instrumentals - 'Kickin' Chicken,' 'A Shot
in the Dark' and 'Fender Bender,' the last a tribute to Dick Dale, the
Ventures and other early '60s guitar heroes." ICE
"This album also includes some of Thackery's best vocal performances.
even when the guitars are in the background, piled up to build
tremolo-laden textures or twanging out shuffle rhythms, they have a
persistent intensity that keeps this disc lively and kickin'." Amazon.com
"The result is simply killer and clearly one of the year's best!" BluesWax.com
"The man hasn't met a style of American roots music that he doesn't like
or can't play the shit out of." Cleveland Scene
"He's an odd duck who somehow manages to work both sides of the aisle;
flashing meltdown licks to please the meathead contingent while
remaining tasteful enough for those who prefer their blues on the less
gauche, Shepherd-ized side." OC Weekly
"One of America's best blues-rock guitarists, Jimmy Thackery plays
hard-driving music that is best suited for the stage, but this album
does him justice. He's just a hell of a player and singer." All Music Guide
"Production, song selection and pacing are all first rate, adding up to
one of Thackery's finest recorded moments to date." PlayBluesGuitar.com

Jimmy's playing was absolutely spectacular!
He played in stereo thru 1969 Marshall 50 watt Plexi BluesBreaker,
and a 1981 Boogie 15" combo, formerly owned by Carlos Santana.
